Project

The proposed project aims at rehabilitating an existing fuel situation, in Achkout town-Keserwan Caza. Built in 1967 and operated until 2010, the fuel station-built conditions have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance.

The project aims at rehabilitating the fuel station, and shall be designed to include all standard car service facilities: fueling, oil change, tire inflating, and car washing, whilst all works shall be executed in accordance with Lebanese relevant laws, industry standards, and Hypco fuel station standards.

Once rehabilitated and up and running, the fuel station shall service the residents of Achkout and all commuters passing through the town.

An Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) was conducted to address the full potential impacts likely to be generated by the Project.

Assignment

The following tasks were undertaken during the IEE study

• Identificationof thekey impacts arising from the rehabilitation works ofthe fuel station.
• Reviewof the regulatory, legislative and institutional framework that is relevant to the project.
• Description of baseline conditions of the project area
• Analysis of impacts on air quality noise, traffic,soil and groundwater,socio-economic conditions, public health and occupational safety
