The Al Madina Al Shamaliya STP plant is to discharge treated wastewater through a long sea outfall with a flowrate ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 m³/s.

The long outfall is provided to discharge treated effluent during the periods when flow is in excess of the irrigation demand and STP storage capacity. The outfall will also provide a disposal route for emergency overflows and “out-of-spec” effluent, not suitable for delivery to TSE irrigation network.

It is expected that the overflow will be collected at an outfall chamber which also functions as an air release chamber to prevent air being carried out in outfall pipeline. The head available at outfall chamber shall be sufficient for gravity discharge via the outfall of the peak specified design flows.

Assignment

The Consultant undertook the following supervision tasks:

• Numerical near-field modelling of sea outfall discharges and marine dispersion processes to ensure optimal diffuser outfall design and compliance with environmental regulations;
• Hydraulic calculation for Outfall pipe lines;
• Wave analysis;
• Subsea pipeline & Diffuser assembly stability study (anchor block design);
• Diffuser structure (including scour protection and dome arrangement design).
