Project

The Project comprises the development of a 100 million square meters lot of land into a residential area, which would include some 5,000 residential units.

Solidere International commissioned Kassia to conduct an initial risk assessment for the site in terms of environmental factors and utility services, which may present serious challenges to the development of the housing project.

Assignment

The following tasks were conducted:

• Identification of major hazards related to geology and hydrogeology by considering the project site geomorphology and geologic mapping.
• Identification of the existing or potential environmental liabilities of the project site by conducting an initial environmental risk assessment for the site. Aspects considered included land and ground water contamination, impacts on sensitive receptors, impacts by adjacent developments.
• Initial assessment of the reliability and suitability of the water supply sources to the site comprising municipal water supply system, and groundwater supply.
• An appraisal of the feasibility and degree of difficulty in mitigating the geological hazards, and environmental liabilities, as well as the water supply challenges. The scope of work for the subsequent stages of detailed assessment was provided.
