Project

The Aleppo WWTP was constructed in 1995 and commissioned in year 2000.

The plant was designed to serve 2 million people with a total designed wastewater flow of 350,000 m3/day.

The treatment scheme includes screening and aerated grit removal, and the main treatment process is based on a pond system comprised of three Complete Mixed ponds, six Facultative ponds, and three Maturation ponds. The final effluent is disinfected by a chlorine system.

Since its commissioning, the plant’s performance did not meet its design objectives. There was an agreement that a technical assessment, is needed to find out the required solutions for restoring the plant to its required treatment efficiency in view of the serious environmental damage resulting from the plant’s impaired performance.
