Exide Al Dobowi set up a new battery manufacturing facility in Technopark, Dubai.
The production process involves: Receipt of Lead and Other Raw Materials, Grid Casting, Oxide Manufacturing, Paste Mixing, Pasting, Curing, Plate Parting and Lug Brushing, Assembly, Battery Charging (Wet Formation)

Assignment

The scope of work of the EIA study included:

• Preparing a detailed project description
• Identification of potential environmental impacts of the project for construction and operations phases
• Air quality dispersion modeling using AERMOD software to predict the impacts of air emissions from the project on surrounding air quality
• Evaluation of significant environmental impacts during construction and operation phases by matrix method
• Preparation of detailed mitigation measures and development of environmental management plans for construction and operation phases of the project
• Submission of the EIA study report to regulatory authority to obtain environmental clearance of the project

The scope of work of the RA study included:

• Preparing a detailed project description.
• Identification of hazards from handling and storage of Lead, acids, chemicals and LPG.
• Defining damage criteria
• Consequence analysis modeling for accidental release of LPG
• Failure frequency and event tree analysis
• Occupational health assessment of handling of Lead and acids
• Review of safety distances as per NFPA standards
• Review of fire protection systems and recommendation of fire protection system as per NFPA standards
• Recommendations for handling of Lead and acids
