Project

The objective of this study is to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment for the Yas Island STP with capacity of 57,000 m³/day.

Metito Overseas Ltd, commissioned Kassia to conduct an EIA study according to Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency (EAD). The study aimed at achieving the following:

• Provide the competent authority and the project proponent with an assessment of the potential impacts of the proposal in view of legislation and policy provisions
• Develop Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for identified significant negative impacts
• Enhance environmental sustainability of the project
• Meet local environmental requirements
• Provide an environmental perspective to the Client to facilitate decision making on project issues

Assignment

The assignment was carried out in two stages: (1) the preparation of a Terms of Reference report, and (2) the preparation of Operational Environmental Management Plan since the study was undertaken when the project was bring constructed. The following tasks were completed during the two stages:

• Establishment of Environmental Baseline Conditions
• Identifying Significant Environmental Impacts
• Analyzing Project Alternatives comprising different technologies, and the No Project alternative
• Assessment of significant environmental impacts, including odor emissions by conducting air dispersion modeling, reuse of effluent in the golf course, reuse of treated sludge in landscaping
• Stakeholder consultations
• Development of Environmental Management Plans comprising mitigation measures, and environmental monitoring plans
